Did I Really Do That?

So on Wednesday, my roommate and I were going to some stores to get some things we are going to need to make Thanksgiving dinners this weekend. One of the things we needed was a 9x13 pan to cook the turkey in, that hopefully fit into our toaster oven. Yes we are going to attempt to cook a turkey in our toaster over. It has been done before by people we know. However, this will be my first time ever cooking a turkey and I am using a toaster oven. I am praying I don't fail!

So finding a 9x13 pan (or 33x23 when using the metric system) was a challenge. A friend of mine told me about a store that sold baking pans and she sent me the website. When I clicked on the link, the website had been disabled. You can't get in a taxi without knowing were you are going so we had to find another place to get a pan. Thankfully we work with some awesome people and they called around and found a place. So we hop in a taxi (in the pouring rain) and head to the store.

The store is down this small alley. Most stores in alleys don't really have doors. So you just walk right on in. So the taxi dropped us off and it is still pouring down rain, so we run to the entryway. Me, being the bright person that I am, decide to get out of the rain and go straight into the store. Well... there was a glass door (that was cleaned so well it looked like it wasn't even there) and I headbutted the door. I was so ready to get out of the cold rain and get the baking pan that I practically ran head first into this door. Yep. I really did that. I hit my head so hard I blacked out for a second because they next thing I remember is catching myself before falling on top of a motorbike.

DID I REALLY JUST DO THAT??? I can't believe I had ran into the door. Never in my life have I done that. And you would think that I would of thought about the Windex commercial where the bird sees the clean window and thinks that its open. However, I thought of the movie The Other Woman, where the guy at the end runs into a glass window/door and breaks his nose and then does it again and breaks the glass. Thankfully neither of those things happened to me!

The lady working at the store didn't really know what I did because she was watching a youtube video. I think she just thought I knocked on the door because then she opened it without saying anything to me. We were only in the store for maybe 5 minutes and by the time we left I had a huge knot on my forehead. I still can't believe I did that!!!

Teacher's Day

Friday was a big deal here... It was Teacher's Day!!! The one day a year that teachers are appreciated here for all that they do! As a teacher our whole job is centered around the students. Each and every day we care and teach our students. It was so heart warming to be showered with love and appreciation from our students and parents.

Our entire morning was pretty much dedicated to performances by students and some of the teachers. My second graders had been practicing the dance (from Just Dance) for ABC by Jackson 5. They really enjoyed it and did such a great job performing it for the school. My roommate's class did I've got the Joy Down in my Heart. They were precious! It is so awesome to see our kids having such a great time performing the songs and dances we had been working on for the past couple of weeks.

Also in the midst of performances our school and parents showered us with gifts. Our school gave us a $25 bonus for teachers day and a $5 gift. The parents gave the ladies scarves, I left with 3 silk scarves :). Thank goodness it's almost winter weather time. LOL. Also the parents of 1B at our school, gave all the teacher engraved pens with their name and a stand. It is so pretty!

I am truly blessed to be working at our school. Every day I am reminded how much I love these kids. Even though there are days that they drive me insane, I wouldn't trade them for the world! Happy Teacher's Day!

Transitions Keep Coming

So last week we got some shocking news at school. We walked into school expecting it to be a normal day only to find out that our principal and his wife (our lead teacher) had decided to leave. They weren't just leaving our school, they were leaving the country. And to make it even more shocking, we were told they were leaving as soon as possible. Of course the one thing on my mind is why? Unfortunately that question has never really been answered.

So here we are with a school that is 4 months old and we are losing 2 of the 5 foreigners! What!? All week we were wondering and stressing about how we were going to cover all our lead teacher's responsibilities as well as our own and what we are going to do without an international principal. Thankfully our lead teacher decided to stay until the end of the week to get things together for the next week. However, some of the things that she wanted weren't going to happen because we are only 3 people.

On Friday we had a farewell ceremony for them after our student of the month awards. They were showered with gifts to help them remember all the staff and great times at our school. The kids were all sad to see them leave. I didn't think I would see so many students crying. My heart broke! I had two kids holding onto me for 30 minutes. They are really going to miss them!

It is really cool to see how God is moving at our school. So even though this news was shocking and we didn't know what we were going to do, God reminded us that he is in control! This wasn't a surprise to him. He has a plan! And the Monday after they left there was a new teacher ready to join our team. God provides even when we are three steps behind.

“For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you” — this is the Lord’s declaration. “I will restore you to the place I deported you from.””
